ALABAMA:
Marche′ Johnson
Montgomery City Council, District 3
Election Date: 08/22/2023
Marche′ is the City Councilor of District 3 in the City of Montgomery, representing a constituency of approximately 23,000. Born and raised in the district she serves, Marche′ is committed to creating a more sustainable, inclusive, and resourceful community. Her priorities include increasing affordable housing, improving surveillance and visibility, and enhancing the effectiveness of neighborhood associations. She is also working towards mediating crime by building strong relationships between law enforcement and community members.
Before being elected as City Councilor, Marche′ gained extensive experience in lean six sigma, logistics, and operations during her 13 years of service in the U.S. Army. She is dedicated to serving her community and continues to work towards making positive changes for its residents.
CALIFORNIA
Los Angeles City Council, District 6
Marco, a born and raised resident of Los Angeles City Council District 6, is running to represent his community. He has worked as the Director of Engagement for LA Family Housing, where he helped connect more than 12,000 Angelenos with housing and services to end homelessness. Additionally, he has served on the board of the Mid-Valley YMCA and ICON CDC, providing resources and training to empower local small businesses. Marco has also held leadership positions in the democratic process, serving as Controller of the Democratic Party San Fernando Valley and Vice President of the San Fernando Valley Young Democrats.
As a first-time candidate, Marco is committed to bringing attention and resources to the Valley, which he feels has been forgotten at City Hall. He plans to use his experiences working with constituents, non-profits, and community-based coalitions to bring solutions that house the unhoused and create more inclusive neighborhoods. Marco’s goal is to unite the community and create a brighter future for all.
COLORADO
Thornton, Mayor

Julia, a native of Colorado with deep roots in Thornton, is a passionate advocate for civic engagement. She earned degrees in news broadcasting and political science from the University of Colorado Boulder and has over a decade of professional experience in marketing and communications, having worked in government, healthcare, technology, startups, and nonprofits. In 2016, Julia and her husband purchased their home in Thornton with the help of a first-time homebuyer grant program. Julia also served as Chair of the Adams County Young Democrats, where she revitalized the chapter and increased engagement through outreach, advocacy, and communications.
In 2019, Julia won a seat on the Thornton City Council with 65% of the vote and increased turnout by 8%. Over the last four years, she has been a fierce advocate for breaking down barriers, building a city that prioritizes listening to residents, and empowering people to take charge. As mayor, Julia’s vision for Thornton is to create a strong economy that supports workers and small businesses, design policies for smart growth and affordable housing, ensure safe and clean neighborhoods, fight for accessible and reliable transportation, enhance community services that promote diversity, and preserve the environment while protecting the health and safety of residents. With her innovative, collaborative, values-driven, and solutions-oriented approach, Julia is the right leader to move Thornton forward.
Lakewood City Council, Ward 2

Isabel is an experienced policy professional and community advocate running for Lakewood City Council Ward 2. As Policy Director for a statewide health advocacy nonprofit, Isabel has spent over 10 years bringing people together to advance social change. Isabel is running to co-create bold solutions with diverse community members to tackle housing, transportation, and public safety challenges in Lakewood, making it more inclusive and sustainable for all.
Lakewood faces economic and housing challenges exacerbated by climate change and the pandemic, which make it difficult for small businesses and residents to stay and thrive. Isabel aims to work with the community to develop solutions that address these issues, making Lakewood more equitable and full of opportunities for all.
As a young, queer Latina running in her first election, Isabel hopes to strengthen pipelines to leadership going forward for underrepresented constituencies in Lakewood. She is committed to building a more equitable future and bringing her community-driven leadership to the city council.
DELAWARE
Red Clay School Board, District D
Election Date: May 9, 2023
Jose has been a dedicated representative for District D on the Red Clay School Board since 2018. He has been actively advocating for resources and support for students in need, expanding the rights of marginalized students, and guiding the District through the pandemic while making Board meetings more accessible to the public.
If re-elected, Jose’s first priority will be to ensure the passage of a referendum, which will provide funding for necessary programs and building maintenance in schools. Additionally, he plans to increase parent and family engagement in schools to enhance student success. Lastly, he aims to improve salaries and working conditions for educators to tackle the teacher shortage issue.
Aside from his work as a board member, Jose is a community liaison for Rockford Center, where he ensures that the mental health needs of the community are being met. He resides in Elsmere with his husband, Michael, who is a teacher.
INDIANA
Terre Haute, Mayor

Born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana, Brandon is a proud Hoosier. He attended public schools in his hometown from kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated from Terre Haute South Vigo. After high school, Brandon pursued his education at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he studied Finance and received training to commission as an Army Officer. In 2018, he was commissioned into the United States Army as a 2nd LT and served for almost 5 years in our nation’s armed forces. During his service, Brandon rose through the ranks. He deployed twice with the Rangers and has recently transitioned to the Indiana National Guard. Through his service and deployments, Brandon gained valuable experience in local governance, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation, which he believes are essential skills for building a brighter future. Brandon has helped create and execute strategic foreign policy decisions under two Presidential Administrations and managed million-dollar budgets focused on organizational growth. His service has also taught him the importance of leadership and its role in ensuring success for any community. Brandon is passionate about his hometown of Terre Haute and believes that it’s time for the community to unlock its potential and for local government to work for the people. He wants to inspire a fresh wave of leaders and energy to bring Terre Haute into the future. He believes that the present is the time to fight for the future with our actions and to start believing in our community again.
Lawrence Common Council, District 5

Zach is a devoted father, accomplished manager, and passionate community leader living with his partner Jessica, a highly respected teacher in Lawrence Township, and their daughter Harper Joanne. Growing up, Zach was passionate about soccer, spending countless hours playing and practicing with his friends. His love for the sport inspired him to travel the world, immersing himself in different cultures and gaining a unique perspective on global issues and diversity. Through his community involvement, Zach recognized the discrimination and inequality faced by marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, and those living in poverty, which drove him to become a vocal advocate for social justice and equality.
In addition to his commitment to social justice, Zach is dedicated to promoting a sustainable future for Lawrence. He understands the importance of green energy in addressing climate change and plans to prioritize investment in renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, as a member of the Common Council. He believes that this will not only protect the environment but also create better jobs and economic opportunities for the city of Lawrence.
Indianapolis City Council, District 2

Brienne, a former prosecutor, has witnessed the impact of violent crime on communities firsthand. As a councilor, she will prioritize increasing the city’s investment in mental health and addiction treatment, supporting the expansion of the city’s gun violence reduction initiatives, and fully funding public safety. Brienne recognizes the importance of infrastructure to the safety of Indianapolis residents and will support efforts to address the city’s longstanding infrastructure challenges, seeking sufficient funding from the State of Indiana by working with surrounding communities and partners. Finally, as a mother, Brienne understands the critical role of schools in the future of the city. She is committed to investing in teachers, facilities, and supporting students while also listening to families.
Bloomington City Council, District 2

Kate is a Bloomington City Council member seeking re-election because she believes in the potential of her community. While many residents are thriving, there are still those who face challenges. Kate aims to use data-driven decision-making and prioritize equity and justice to create a better future for everyone. She believes that the issue of climate change provides an opportunity to rebuild Bloomington in a more just and equitable way. To achieve this, Kate wants to ensure that everyone benefits from renewable energy, with available, attainable, and safe housing, sustainable transportation, access to local food, and a local economy with green and living wage jobs.
Raised in New Albany, Indiana, Kate grew up in a downtown neighborhood with a city planner father and an educator mother. From a young age, she understood the importance of safe and stable neighborhoods. As an attorney, Kate focuses on placemaking and affordable housing, working with local governments, non-profits, small businesses, and residents to enhance quality of life at the neighborhood level. She is passionate about promoting equity and justice in every decision to rebuild communities. Kate currently resides in Bloomington.
KANSAS
Overland Park City Council, Ward 2.

Drew is a public policy professional and AmeriCorps national service alum running for City Council in Ward 2 of Overland Park, Kansas. As a new father, he understands the importance of policies that generate opportunities for the community. Drew’s vision for Overland Park involves building on its strengths, including access to quality schools, parks, amenities, and jobs, and promoting a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for families to raise their children.
Drew earned his degree in political science and communication from William Jewell College, where he was twice named Male Athlete of the Year for his performance on the NCAA Division II baseball team. He fulfilled his year of national service with City Year in Washington, DC, working in a 4th-grade math classroom in a historically disadvantaged neighborhood. Drew’s public policy career began with the nation’s largest trade association for the trucking industry, and he now works at Burns & McDonnell, a leading engineering and construction firm, where he focuses on infrastructure policy for some of the state and region’s largest transportation and water projects. Drew’s extensive experience in infrastructure policy and national service experience make him well-suited to advance Overland Park’s sustainability, economic development, and quality of life goals.
MASSACHUSETTS
Medford City Council, At-Large

Justin is a trailblazer as the youngest and first Asian-American City Councilor in Medford, who strives to make the city inclusive for all residents. He is a proud graduate of the Medford Public Schools and a first-generation Taiwanese American. Justin has been a strong advocate for marginalized communities, fighting for a Medford that works for everyone. During his tenure, Justin has collaborated with community partners to pass meaningful measures to address housing and climate crises, increase funding for public schools and the public library, and advance social justice and equity. With his leadership, Medford has passed a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, a Housing Production Plan, and worked on revitalizing city squares. Justin believes in returning to the basics, focusing on keeping people in their homes, making air and water cleaner, and ensuring residents feel safe regardless of their background. In just two years, Medford has taken significant steps towards being more affordable, accessible, and welcoming. Justin is running for re-election to continue building on the progressive foundation he helped to establish.
Somerville City Council, At-Large

Willie is a Somerville City Councilor At-Large and a vocal advocate for social justice. He has worked tirelessly to create transformative policies, including the abolition of medical debt and the establishment of an unarmed alternative emergency response program. As a renter, former union steward, and writer, he has been a voice for those most impacted by policy decisions. Willie has a unique ability to bridge the gap between policymakers and the communities they serve. His experience as a former campaign staffer for Senators Warren and Markey has given him the skills necessary to create meaningful change. Willie is running for re-election to the Somerville City Council with the goal of creating a more inclusive and engaged community. He is committed to fighting for self-determination over corporate rule and is dedicated to shining a path forward for communities across the country.
Dorchester City Council, District 3

Joel is a Boston public school teacher, pastor, and father of two boys living in the heart of Dorchester with his wife, Madeligne. He was raised by Jamaican immigrant parents who instilled the values of hard work and mutual care in him. Joel has spent his entire life working for the community, from the classroom to the pews and streets. Through this work, he has learned how to unite diverse groups of people around issues that unite us all, such as ensuring families can provide for themselves in safe and affordable neighborhoods.
Somerville City Council, Ward 7

Judy, one of the first two Latinas on the Somerville City Council, was elected to represent Somerville’s Ward 7 in 2021, and she is currently serving as Council Vice President. With lived and professional experience, she strives to advance equity and justice for the Somerville community. She successfully advocated for language justice as a top priority in the City Council’s FY23 budget and continues to fight for vulnerable neighbors.
Judy believes Somerville is a vibrant community that needs thriving small businesses, safer streets, green spaces, and affordable neighborhoods. She is committed to advocating for a more inclusive and stronger Somerville, with a goal of making the community a better place to live, work, and thrive.
Growing up in Los Angeles as the daughter of two immigrant parents, Judy moved to Somerville in 2001 to attend Tufts University, where she graduated cum laude. She earned her MBA with honors at Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business with a certification in Leadership Development. As a nonprofit leadership and management consultant, Judy owns Spark Sisterhood, a small business that hosts leadership retreats for women. She and her husband, Mark, are expecting their first child in April 2023.
Boston City Council, District 6

Kendra is a proud first-generation Black Dominican woman, mother, and artist who grew up in the Bronx and Jamaica Plain. She co-founded Beantown Society, a youth-led organization, during her first year of high school and later became its director. Kendra’s experiences with community violence led her to work with the StreetSafe Boston Initiative, where she was one of the few women and the youngest person in the city to provide trauma-informed support to young people.
As the Director of Radical Philanthropy at Resist, a historic Boston-based organization, Kendra supported efforts to bring marginalized communities to the forefront. Kendra was the first person of color to represent District Six on the Boston City Council, where she continues to push for a socialist vision and works to expand the imagination and resources of local governments to move toward liberation.
MICHIGAN
Novi City Council, At-Large

Matt is a dedicated family man living in Novi, Michigan, and is proud to be a Girl-Dad and husband. He strongly believes in the importance of families living sustainably alongside wildlife in their community. As the co-leader of an elementary school environment club, Matt empowers young people with knowledge and compassion to make a positive impact. Matt’s playful attitude and word choice are grounded in his academic achievements. He earned a degree in Zoology from Michigan State University and conducted PhD research on chimpanzee behavior at Gombe National Park, where he explored the benefits of play behavior in primates. Matt transitioned to studying zoo animal welfare, conducting research at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago and the Detroit Zoo, where he took a scientific approach to making informed decisions for animal wellbeing. While Matt has now pivoted to human health as a technical writer, his data-driven approach to decision-making remains unchanged. Matt is passionate about helping others and working as a team to promote the well-being of all.
Lansing City Council, At-Large

Tamera is a Michigan State University graduate, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a focus on Law and Society. Additionally, she has earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Cornerstone University and has extensive experience in financial oversight, management, leadership, and community engagement.
As a dedicated servant leader, Tamera is committed to being a voice, resource, and advocate for the community. She is determined to address critical issues facing our community, such as senseless gun violence, by working with key stakeholders. Tamera believes that by working together, we can learn, educate and protect our community to prevent further loss of loved ones.
Moreover, Tamera aims to address housing insecurities and the rise in homelessness by examining the current conditions of good housing stock, affordable housing, workforce housing, and market-rate housing. She seeks to promote economic stability and community engagement throughout Lansing. Tamera believes that by investing in economic development, the city can grow, and the quality of life for its residents can improve.
Lastly, Tamera is committed to ensuring that the local government is transparent, equitable, and inclusive. She believes that everyone deserves a seat at the table and the opportunity to be heard, as well as a fair share of investment.
MINNESOTA
Saint Paul City Council, Ward 6
General Date: November 7, 2023
Nelsie, the first Hmong American woman to be elected as councilmember in Saint Paul, was sworn into office in January 2020. Raised in a family of Hmong refugees, Nelsie is the youngest of five children and has a background in social work and social justice activism. Her experiences with systemic poverty and racism led her to political organizing to make change.
As a racial equity organizer and former union steward, Nelsie fights for dismantling systems of oppression, bigotry, white supremacy, racism, and racial capitalism that benefit from the labor of marginalized groups. Her campaigns have focused on raising the minimum wage, ensuring renters’ rights, supporting small businesses, and electing progressive candidates.
As a councilmember, Nelsie continues to champion these issues and co-governs alongside people, labor unions, and organizations to build a united society across race, class, and gender. Her vision is to create a community where everyone is included and no one is left behind.
Saint Paul City Council, Ward 5
General Date: November 7, 2023
Hwa Jeong is a Korean American non-profit executive director, organizer, former Legislative Aide, and resident of Saint Paul’s North End. She is running for Ward 5 in Saint Paul because she believes in a city that prioritizes healthy homes, community safety, clean air, neighborhood jobs, and transportation options that meet residents’ changing needs. Hwa Jeong has previously served Ward 5 residents on the Saint Paul Planning Commission and its Zoning Committee, where she represented shared values. During her tenure as a Legislative Aide, she fought for progressive policies that protect marginalized neighbors and organized with communities to achieve them.
For the past several years, Hwa Jeong has dedicated her time to electing progressive women, women of color, and LGBTQIA2+ women to positions of power that represent communities. She has knocked on thousands of doors and listened to neighbors in Ward 5 to understand their most pressing issues. Hwa Jeong is currently the executive director of Minnesota Voice, a non-profit that focuses on voting rights, voting access, civic engagement, and education. By earning each other’s trust, she believes that shared solutions can be found to achieve a better future.
MISSISSIPPI
Mississippi House, District 68

Zakiya is a civil rights activist and servant leader currently serving her first term as State Representative for House District 68. Her district covers portions of West and South Jackson, Byram, and Terry in Hinds County, and Pearl and Richland in Rankin County. Prior to her current role, Zakiya was the former Election Commissioner for Hinds County District 3 and former Director of Communications and Advocacy for the ACLU of Mississippi. Over the past decade, she has led campaigns to address systemic barriers at the intersections of voting rights, criminal justice, educational equity, healthcare access, and racial justice. Zakiya is also actively involved in various organizations, including Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Refill Jackson Initiative, and Leadership Greater Jackson. She received her BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is pursuing a master’s in public policy from Jackson State University. Zakiya and her family live in West Jackson, where she is dedicated to serving her constituents and advocating for transparency and equity in government.
MISSOURI
Kansas City Council, District 6

Johnathan is a community organizer and Iraq war veteran who is committed to ensuring safe, accessible, and truly affordable housing for all. He is running for a seat on the Kansas City City Council in the Sixth District, and his platform focuses on municipal social housing, climate justice, and ensuring that those most impacted by problems have a voice and a seat at the table when crafting policy solutions.
As a combat veteran with PTSD, Johnathan understands the cost of public services that fail those who need them most. He credits the compassion of his community with helping him recover and thrive. However, he sees a lack of community support in Kansas City and has thus dedicated himself to organizing. Johnathan has experience organizing on his college campus with student veterans, as well as with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and KC Tenants, a city-wide tenant union. Through his organizing work, he has seen firsthand the power of community support and the beauty of a vision for a Kansas City where everyone can thrive, not just survive.
NEBRASKA
Lincoln City Council, District 4

Brodey is a passionate advocate for his community in northwest Lincoln and is running for the Lincoln City Council to serve his district. With a lifelong commitment to his community, Brodey is dedicated to addressing critical issues facing the city. He brings extensive experience in client relations, having served as Vice President of Client Relations for Mid America Casing Supply, LLC, a locally-owned family tire warehouse business located in Airpark.
Brodey has a strong history of civic involvement, having been appointed by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird to Lincoln’s Keno/Human Services Advisory Board in 2020 and confirmed unanimously by the City Council. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Highlands Neighborhood Association and Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties, where he holds the position of Vice President. Brodey is a member of Lincoln’s Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group, a past participant of the Lincoln Public School’s Citizen’s Academy, and a former assistant debate coach at Lincoln Southwest High School. He is also an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Northwest Lincoln. Brodey is committed to being a strong voice for his community and working towards positive change for his neighbors.

New York City Council, District 13

Marjorie is a daughter of the Bronx-born and raised in the borough to Puerto Rican parents who moved here in the 1970s to build a better life for their family. She now serves the community that raised her as a member of the New York City Council, where she serves as chair of the Consumer and Workers Protection Committee. She lives in Throgg’s Neck with her husband Jeff and their three cats.
Dutchess County, District 19

Claire is an advocate, caregiver, and communicator running for Dutchess County Legislature, 19th District on progressive principles of uplifting others. Her lived experiences, including struggling with food insecurity and homelessness as a child, make her uniquely equipped to connect with her future constituents. Claire has always been called to serve and work tirelessly to give voice to the voiceless and lend a helping hand where needed. She is ready to challenge the status quo of the Republican supermajority in the Dutchess Legislature and tackle critical community challenges such as the affordable housing crisis, lack of public transportation in rural areas, and investing in education for the next generation.

Chester Town Supervisor

Brandon is a dedicated public servant who has been serving as a Town Councilman since 2022. He has an extensive background in public service, having worked for two State Senators and a Congressman. Brandon is running for the position of Town Supervisor of Chester, NY. Through his experience as a Councilman, he has gained valuable insights into what needs to be done to improve the quality of life for residents and enhance the services provided by the town hall. As someone who was born and raised in Chester, Brandon is passionate about making his hometown a better place to live for current and future generations. He is committed to working tirelessly for his constituents and bringing positive change to the community as their Supervisor.

Carolyn is a community organizer residing in the Plymouth-Exchange neighborhood, where she volunteers for the Flower City Noire Collective and the Monroe County Democratic Committee. With a diverse work background, including experience as an EMT, a youth and child education professional, and a care professional for individuals with disabilities, Carolyn is committed to serving her community. She graduated from the WomenElect program, which prepares women for public office, and is a strong advocate for basic income as a means to alleviate poverty and create safe and healthy communities for families.
New Rochelle School Board

Makeda, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, has dedicated her career to improving public education. With a Master’s degree in Higher & Postsecondary Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, Makeda has provided support to students and families while creating data-driven solutions for division leads, principals, and superintendents. With four and a half years of experience working for the largest school system in the country, Makeda understands how to work within a bureaucracy. Her campaign slogan, “Excellence and Opportunity,” is her guiding principle when considering impactful policies. Makeda believes that setting high standards for all students and those who impact school communities is essential to advancing public education for all. She is committed to serving not only every child and parent but also school administrators, custodians, librarians, cafeteria cooks, and all those who touch the school experience. As a Board of Education member, Makeda will use her experience and passion to bring excellence to New Rochelle’s public schools and ensure every student has access to the opportunities they deserve.

Shaquille Alexander
Whitehall City Treasurer

As Whitehall City Treasurer, Shaquille has been responsible for managing the city’s finances, including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. During his time in office, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that the city’s financial information is easily accessible to the public.
In addition to his work as City Treasurer, Shaquille is also actively involved in the community. He volunteers with local organizations that support youth development and education, and he is committed to finding ways to improve the quality of life for all Whitehall residents.
If elected to a four year term as Whitehall City Treasurer, Shaquille will continue to prioritize transparency, accountability, and community involvement. He will work to ensure that the city’s finances are managed responsibly and that all residents have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Cambridge Municipal Court Judge

Myra is a judicial candidate for the Cambridge Municipal Court. She is currently serving as the Assistant City Law Director for the City of Cambridge, prosecuting misdemeanor crimes on behalf of the State of Ohio and the City of Cambridge in the Cambridge Municipal Court. Myra has worked in all levels of government and has developed a deep legal understanding of issues related to victim’s rights, public safety, restitution, and rehabilitation. As an attorney, Myra has developed a reputation for being hard-working, level-headed, and fair. Myra will bring these attributes to the Cambridge Municipal Court, if elected. Myra is married to Jeff Scheurer, an automotive design engineer and champion BBQ pitmaster. They will be celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary this year.
Toledo City Council, District 5

Sam has a background in the nonprofit sector, where he worked on issues such as food insecurity, healthcare, and disability rights. In his first term on City Council, he collaborated with his colleagues to pass Toledo’s 1% for the Environment, the first program of its kind in the country. This program allocates 1% of the capital budget to combat climate change and improve the health of Lake Erie. Sam is now running for City Council District 5 to continue advocating for the environment, pedestrian-friendly streets, and economic development that benefits everyone.

Sheena is running for reelection to the Toledo Public Schools Board of Education, where she is a proud parent of a TPS student. Sheena is a community engagement specialist with experience advocating for equality and justice, as well as a deep understanding of trauma-informed care best practices. Sheena will prioritize safety for all TPS students, both mentally and physically, by advocating for common-sense gun laws and culturally appropriate safety policies.
As the former Executive Director of Equality Toledo, she will also continue to create a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students and staff. Sheena is committed to fighting for fair and equitable funding for public education in Ohio and ensuring that teachers are equipped to teach all of American history.
OREGON
Multnomah County, District 3

Ana is a mother of two with experience as a public educator and nonprofit executive. She is the first person in her family to earn a college degree, attending the University of Southern California on a full academic scholarship at the age of sixteen. Ana later earned graduate degrees from Harvard Kennedy School and Pepperdine Caruso School of Law. As the first executive director of Oregon Futures Lab, Ana worked on groundbreaking legislation for economic security, environmental justice, and access to healthcare. She also served on the boards of directors of several nonprofits and was appointed to the Oregon Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee, the Multnomah County Health Department Budget Advisory Committee, and the Multnomah County Tobacco Rules Advisory Committee.
Ana was elected to the David Douglas School Board, where she successfully expanded the availability of services in the school-based health clinic in collaboration with community-based advocates. Ana is now running for Multnomah County Commission, District 3, to bring her firsthand understanding of the problems facing everyday people to the policy- and budget-making experience needed to help solve them.

Gabriela is a community organizer and lifelong advocate in outer East Portland, running for the David Douglas School Board in Portland, Oregon. She is an alumna of the school board and has family members who have gone through the district. Gabriela was raised by immigrant parents and attended ESL/ELL, providing her with first-hand experience of the challenges students face. She is passionate about increasing student voice, community safety, and equity.
As an organizer, Gabriela has worked on labor rights, housing protections, food and environmental justice. She brings a different perspective to the table, having experience as a former student, and is proud to give back to her community and make positive change.

Bellevue School Board

Katrina, a School Board Director for Northgate School District, has a strong commitment to the Northgate community. As a graduate of Northgate High School in 2012, they were asked to fill a vacant seat on the School Board a decade later. Katrina stepped up to serve the community and prioritize the well-being of Northgate students.
With a unique perspective as an alumni, community organizer, queer person of color, and someone who grew up in the disability justice movement, Katrina brings a fresh approach to the school board. They are dedicated to ensuring that every student attending Northgate has access to mental health support and resources, that the schools celebrate the diversity of the community, and that each child’s individual learning needs are met in an environment that raises the bar for all students.

Franklin City Council, District 2

Ashley, a lifelong resident of Franklin, is a candidate for the 2nd District seat on the Franklin City Council. As the Be Here program manager at the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce, she aims to bring her passion for community engagement and public service to the council.
Apart from her role at the chamber, Smith serves as a board member for several organizations, including the Franklin Fine Arts Council, the Franklin Historic and Architectural Review Board, Franklin Meals on Wheels, and Venango — Together We Can. She is also the vice-chair for the Venango County Democratic Committee and is an active member of Oil Region Rising and the FLEX Young Professionals group.
Smith’s contributions to the community have earned her recognition, including the Oil Region Alliance “Best Local Business and Tourism Advocate” award in 2021 and the Venango Chamber of Commerce “Community Hero” title. She has also been nominated twice for the FLEX “Young Professional of the Year” award.
A Leadership Venango alumna, Smith has completed the Be Here ambassador training multiple times. She volunteers as a coach for the Franklin High School Marching Band Silks and the Franklin Middle School cheerleaders. In addition to her community work, Smith is also the owner and inspector of Zaccari Home Inspections LLC. She is a member of the InterNACHI Western PA and Young Professional Inspector Chapters and holds the title of PA Certified Professional Inspector from the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.

Justin is a husband and father of three who has served and advocated for underserved communities. He is running for County Commissioner, bringing new ideas and perspectives to address Dauphin County’s challenges. Justin is a long-time pastor, combining his community service knowledge and activism experience to pursue restorative justice instead of inhumane treatment in the criminal justice and prison system.
Justin believes in providing quality benefits to Dauphin County residents through Human Services programs such as Children and Youth, Drug and Alcohol, Aging Services, and Mental Health, among others. He proposes that a deeper investment in these essential services should start with paying those serving Dauphin County residents a fair and livable wage. As a CrossFit coach, Justin understands that progress requires planning, consistency, and commitment. Blade, a York County native with strong ties to York City, holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and will complete a master’s degree in public policy and administration in May 2023. He served as the youngest councilperson and sole Democrat in Yorkana Borough for four years. Additionally, Blade is a member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee and currently works as a Research Analyst for the Pennsylvania House Democratic Transportation Committee. With a lifelong commitment to public service, Blade understands the importance of government working for its constituents.
Blade’s candidacy for York City Council is driven by his desire to continue making a difference in the community. If elected, he will advocate for transparency, accountability, public safety, and lower property taxes. Weldianne is a resident of the Borough of Swissvale, a mother of two, and a lawyer with wide-ranging experience. She has represented clients in criminal and civil matters in state and federal courts, and has also served as an arbitrator for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Weldianne received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance from the University of Central Florida. As a woman of color in the legal field, and the daughter of an immigrant, she is committed to serving the people and communities that shape them. Weldianne is a dedicated public servant and thought leader in the community. She is currently a Member of Council for the Borough of Swissvale and Vice President, as well as founder and chairperson for the Borough of Swissvale Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She has also participated with the Allegheny County Bar Association Homer S. Brown Division and Pro Bono representation through the Neighborhood Legal Services, Allegheny County Pro Bono Center, and Ask A Lawyer (AAL) legal clinic. Weldianne’s hard work, integrity, and diligence have earned her numerous awards and recognition, including the Pittsburgh Courier’s Fab 40 award.

Rachel is a legal aid attorney at KidsVoice, where she represents at-risk juveniles and young adults with system involvement at magistrate hearings. With a focus on harm reduction, Rachel’s platform is based on her daily observations at magistrate offices across the county. Her top priorities include dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline, ending the criminalization of poverty, and implementing trauma-informed, respectful, and efficient courtroom practices. Rachel is particularly concerned about the levying of fines and fees against those without the means to pay, which traps people in poverty through an endless cycle of missed payments, bench warrants, and increased penalties. She is also passionate about ending the arrests of juveniles, particularly those with mental health struggles, within our schools.
Rachel is the board secretary for Dreams of Hope, a creative and performing arts organization for LGBTQA+ youth, and Write Pittsburgh, a writing program collective. As a Regional Vice-President of the National Lawyers Guild, she previously represented and advised those participating in various protests and demonstrations. Rachel holds three degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, including law, masters, and undergraduate degrees. She resides in Pittsburgh’s East End with her husband Brandon and their rescue pitbull Nuala.
Christina DeMarco-Breeden
Washington, District Attorney

Christina, a seasoned prosecutor and child advocate, is running for the position of District Attorney in Washington County. Her mission is to bring equality, integrity, and transparency to the District Attorney’s Office. Currently serving as a Deputy District Attorney in Somerset County, Christina has also established a private practice where she acts as a court-appointed guardian ad litem and child counsel for dependent children in Washington County.
Additionally, she represents clients in family law matters. With extensive experience prosecuting thousands of cases, including those involving child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault, Christina has developed a reputation as a skilled trial attorney, boasting an impressive conviction rate of approximately 90%. As District Attorney, Christina aims to educate and prevent crime among school-aged children in the county. A lifelong resident of Washington County, Christina graduated from Ringgold High School in 2004, and later earned her B.A. in English from Temple University in 2008, where she was a member of the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball team. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2012 and passed the Pennsylvania bar later that year.
Montgomery County Commissioner

Neil is an election lawyer and voting rights advocate running for Commissioner in Montgomery County, which has a population larger than four states. As a Commissioner, he would oversee 3,000 county employees and a $500M budget, as well as manage the Board of Elections in Pennsylvania’s third-largest county, a critical role at a time when voting rights are under attack. Neil is the only candidate with the experience and qualifications necessary to withstand relentless GOP voter suppression and voter intimidation through litigation, even if it means going to the PA Supreme Court to fight for every voter’s ballot.
Born to immigrant parents, Neil earned a scholarship to Harvard Law School after working in the Obama White House. In his legal practice, he stood up to opioid manufacturers on behalf of Pennsylvania counties and took on Big Tobacco for marketing flavored e-cigarettes to children. Neil lives in Lower Merion with his wife, Dr. Rachel Nash, and they are expecting their first child in June. Neil is running for the seat formerly held by PA Governor Josh Shapiro, and if elected, he would be the first Indian American or AAPI Commissioner in the entire Commonwealth.

Delloso (D). Katy is a 24-year-old endorsed Run for Something candidate running for the West Chester Area school board in Region 1. Katy is a new parent and lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Unionville High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in environmental management, African American studies, and communications. She is currently pursuing a master’s in social work from Temple University. Katy has worked as a policy staff writer for Ballotpedia, covering different policy topics such as public education, criminal justice reform, and environmental social governance. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, solving crossword puzzles, and trying out plant-based restaurants in the area.
Katy is passionate about fostering inclusive learning environments for all students, including LGBTQ+ youth, BIPOC, and students with disabilities. As the mother of a biracial child, Katy is committed to ensuring that every student feels accepted and appreciated in the classroom. She hopes to continue building upon the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives already taking place within the West Chester Area School District if elected. Katy is also concerned about the threat of gun violence in schools and is vocal about banning assault weapons and pushing for stricter gun legislation. Alex is running to represent Region 1 in the West Chester Area School District in Chester County, PA, where he is an alum and has deep roots in the community. Ahmed is a community leader and former refugee from Chad, Africa, who resettled in Lancaster, PA with his family in 1997. As a volunteer community organizer and refugee leader, Ahmed was appointed to Lancaster City Council to fill a vacancy, becoming the first former refugee to serve in that capacity. He is currently running for a full term in a special election. Ahmed is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, and to making sure that all members of the Lancaster community have a voice. As a council member, he has worked to increase access to affordable housing, to support small businesses, and to advocate for the needs of underserved communities. If elected to a full term, Ahmed will continue to prioritize the needs of all residents and work to build a brighter future for Lancaster.
Montgomery County Commissioner

Kimberly has dedicated her life to serving her community in Montgomery County. As a lifelong resident, she holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Bucknell University and Villanova University, respectively. Kimberly is a veteran public school teacher who advocates for the teaching of multicultural literature and fights against extremists who want to ban books from classrooms. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the Whitpain Township Board of Supervisors, where she led the charge to establish a Reproductive Health Ordinance in response to the potential overturning of Roe V Wade.
Kimberly has also implemented a Responsible Contractors Ordinance to ensure that municipal projects are completed efficiently and effectively. She established a Human Relations Commission and successfully preserved 63 acres of land at Mermaid Park. In addition to her work on the Board of Supervisors, Kimberly serves on the Montgomery County Community College Board of Trustees.
Central York School Board

Ben is a dedicated public servant, poet, and father who resides in Central York School District, Pennsylvania. With a decade of experience as a human services analyst, caseworker, and legal assistant, he understands the importance of community support and education in shaping a better future. Ben holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from American University in Washington, DC, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Hollins University in Virginia. He is committed to advancing the curriculum and ensuring that students receive the resources they need to succeed in and out of the classroom.
Ben’s strong belief in education has been further strengthened by the events that occurred in the Central York School District in 2021. When hundreds of books were banned from schools for their political and racial content, Ben joined hands with the community and newly elected board members to reverse the ban. However, far-right and anti-education extremist groups are continuing their efforts to impose book bans in the district. Ben will continue to be vocal and firm in his opposition to these attempts and will work tirelessly to protect the district’s children and their education. If elected, he will work to ensure that the district’s teachers and students receive the resources and support they deserve.

Brad is a conservation advocacy manager working towards a cleaner and healthier environment for all Pennsylvanians. He is a United States Air Force veteran, a homeowner, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community who loves music and musical theater. With a Masters Degree in Public Administration, Brad aims to advocate for policies to provide affordable housing, improve critical infrastructure, enforce housing codes, reduce blight, enhance community engagement, support small businesses, and boost public health and sanitation. His vision for a better Harrisburg is based on three values: Accountability, Transparency, and Resiliency.
Brad believes that by working together, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, or religion, they can make Harrisburg a more equitable home for all. Brad’s advocacy was instrumental in securing over $750 million for Pennsylvania’s environmental landscape in 2022. He plans to leverage his experiences to push for policies that protect the environment and make Harrisburg a better place to live.

Jessica (she/her) is a history-making member of Scranton City Council, elected in 2019 as the first out LGBTQ councilmember. During her time on the council, she has achieved several notable accomplishments, including banning conversion therapy and helping the city exit financial distressed status after three decades under PA Act 47. Jessica has also fought for improved quality of life and rental registration ordinances to reduce blight in the city. As the only woman currently serving on City Council, she has been a strong advocate for marginalized communities and plans to continue her efforts towards progress in the city if re-elected. As a parent, she is particularly invested in securing a bright future for her child.
Jessica’s passion for advocacy began in college when she founded her school’s first LGBTQ student organization. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Scranton, where she currently works full-time as a physical therapist in an outpatient facility. Jessica has served on multiple non-profit boards and finds fulfillment in helping others as a public servant.

Dallas City Council, District 1

Albert, a third-generation Oak Cliff resident, is running for Dallas City Council to represent District 1. His family has been rooted in Oak Cliff since the 1970s, and Albert likes to say he was born on the banks of the Arkikosa River (Trinity).
Albert is a dedicated community leader and volunteer at Molina High School, his alma mater. As a co-founder of Somos Tejas, a civic engagement group, he led efforts in Dallas County to provide COVID-19 education and ran door-to-door operations to promote participation in the 2020 Census. Additionally, he was involved with the West Oak Cliff Coalition, where he contributed to the formation of the Automotive Association of Oak Cliff and continues to support the group in advocating for locally-owned small businesses.
Albert is committed to increasing civic participation in neighborhoods that have been historically marginalized and under-engaged. He believes that every community in District 1 deserves the same level of engagement and support. Albert works as a data engineering consultant and holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin, class of 2016. If elected, Albert will bring his passion for community engagement and advocacy to the Dallas City Council to ensure that District 1 has strong representation.

With a background in skilled labor jobs, healthcare access, and quality education, Emmanuel is committed to ensuring that all Pasadena residents, students, and small businesses have access to the same opportunities for success. He puts people first and is dedicated to working for the city and community.

Obes is a Houston-based young professional with a passion for serving his community and improving the lives of others. He has been actively involved in community outreach and service by volunteering his time for various events, including reading to elementary school students and participating in neighborhood clean-up events. Obes has also given career talks to middle and high school students to encourage and inspire them.
While working at Baylor Scott and White Health, Obes helped create a pilot program that provided patients with free rideshare services to attend doctor’s appointments and hospital visits. He also serves on the board of directors for the Art Colony Association, where he helps oversee the annual Bayou City Arts Festival.
Obes is running for Houston City Council with a commitment to ensuring that Houstonians have access to reliable public transit, clean drinking water, and a secure future for themselves and their families.

Shannon, an educator, advocate, and community leader, currently focuses on being an at-home parent, alongside her spouse Austin, two young children, and rescue dog Charlie. With a background as a secondary Spanish teacher and Department Head, she has a long history of public education advocacy. After leaving the classroom, she connected with grassroots community organizations to improve equity within Round Rock ISD. Shannon is actively engaged in groups such as Anti-Racists Coming Together, Access Education RRISD, El Amistad Club of Round Rock, and RRISD’s Parent Teacher Association.
As a recent graduate of the City of Round Rock UniverCity program, she has a deep understanding of the city’s operations, goals, and structures that make it run. Native to Central Texas, Shannon is passionate about community engagement and wants to make sure that everyone in Round Rock has a voice. She is eager to serve her community in an effort to embrace equitable and sustainable growth while organizing enriching activities for her young family in the excellent Round Rock community.

Jeremy has first-hand experience being an advocate for his community and understands the struggles faced by many of Mason’s residents. He recognizes the value of targeted programs and collective action in improving the community. To combat the challenge of housing affordability in Fairfax County, Jeremy and his wife utilized the Fairfax County Workforce Development program to purchase their home. He then became a leader in his local neighborhood group, Save Bren Mar, which successfully stopped a negative rezoning proposal that would have brought a data center to his residential area, causing environmental damage.
As a staffer for U.S. Representative Don Beyer, Jeremy gained experience connecting constituents with government services. He manages a range of constituent service issues impacting seniors, veterans, minorities, and Fairfax County residents. Having heard the concerns of the Mason community firsthand, Jeremy is committed to advocating for a government that proactively serves and listens to its people. If elected as Supervisor, he will prioritize affordable homeownership, land use development, and constituent and government services. His focus will be on the workers providing those services to ensure they receive fair wages. Jeremy’s goal is to increase awareness, access, and effectiveness of local government efforts for the benefit of the Mason community.

Jonathan is a progressive advocate who prioritizes increasing diverse representation through policy and public service. He is running for Arlington County Board to bring diverse voices and perspectives to the decision-making table. His policy priorities are centered around small business opportunities, climate resiliency, housing access and affordability, sustainable infrastructure and transportation, and inclusive communities. With nearly 1 in 5 Arlingtonians identifying as Latino, 2 in 5 being millennials, and 3 in 5 being renters, it is crucial for the 5-person County Board to have diverse representation when making policy on behalf of nearly 250,000 residents within 26 square miles. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Jonathan’s family immigrated to the U.S. in search of opportunities. Jonathan’s professional and personal achievements have focused on social good and people-centered policies that enhance diverse representation from international development practices to local activism.
He has experience guiding policy decisions made by community leaders, local and state officials, and the White House. Jonathan is a double graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and McCourt School of Public Policy and a graduate of UVA’s Sorensen Institute. He has successfully led local, statewide, and national efforts on behalf of the Democrats most notably through the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia (DLOV). In 2021, Jonathan was appointed by Governor Northam as an inaugural member of the LGBTQ+ Advisory Board. Jonathan and his husband, Juan, are proud to call Arlington home, from Ballston, Rosslyn, to Pentagon City.

Maureen is a public policy analyst at a progressive think tank, focusing on early childhood programs. She’s also a proud union member in IFPTE Local 70. Maureen is running for Arlington County Board to build strong communities that engage people in building responsive local services and resources. As a third-generation Northern Virginian, Maureen has seen how the housing market and local economy have shifted, depriving families of financial stability and the freedom to live where they work. Maureen will bring her experience as a renter to the Arlington County Board, while leveraging her expertise in child and family policy to develop a comprehensive strategy to address the skyrocketing rent and cost of living while protecting the environment, ensuring all Arlingtonians can thrive for generations to come.
As a longtime community organizer, Maureen has held leadership roles in the Democratic Party at the local, state, and national levels. She has served on Virginia’s Family and Children’s Trust to address family violence issues and is an active member of her neighborhood association, currently representing them on the Arlington County Civic Federation.

With over a decade of experience living and working in Loudoun County, Russet has dedicated her career to advocating for those in need. She served as a prosecutor in the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, fighting for victims of domestic assault, rape, child abuse, and murder, and was involved in the mental health and drug court dockets. Russet also worked as a CIA Officer, collaborating with individuals of diverse ideologies to protect American citizens and democracy. Russet’s upbringing, with financial struggles and parents who were public school teachers, made her passionate about advocating for working families, affordable healthcare, fully-funded public schools, and the underrepresented.

Her experience includes national efforts to increase women’s political power, supporting women who run for office or seek an appointed position, increasing access to the ballot for all voters, building partnerships across diverse groups and geographies, serving on the Virginia Fair Housing Board, and serving on the Executive Board of Chesterfield NAACP. Additionally, she has educated graduate social work students in research, administration, economic development, and human behavior.
Amanda’s campaign is focused on ensuring that Chesterfield’s Circuit Court is the most accessible, transparent, and functional in the Commonwealth. She brings her leadership skills and vast experience to this role to make the court system work for everyone. Amanda lives in Chesterfield with her husband and two children.

Suhas is a lawyer and businessperson who serves as a representative for Loudoun County in the Virginia General Assembly. In 2019, he became the first person of South Asian or Indian heritage ever elected in Virginia at the state or federal level. Previously, he worked as a White House technology policy advisor for President Obama. As a Delegate, he has achieved numerous successes, including being named a Conservation Hero by the League of Conservation Voters, passing legislation to lower healthcare costs and fully fund public education, and addressing high tolls in Northern Virginia. He is a co-founder and co-Chair of the Commonwealth Caucus, a Member of the Virginia Small Business Commission, co-Founder of the Virginia Minority Business Commission, co-Founder of the Virginia AAPI Caucus, and a Member of the Joint Commission on Technology and Science. Suhas and his wife currently reside in Ashburn, Virginia with their two daughters.

In Richmond, she advocates for a fair economy that benefits all Virginians, affordable healthcare, a greener environment, increased funding for public education, and a democracy that includes all communities. Irene serves on the Committees of Counties, Cities and Towns, and Communications, Technology and Innovation, as well as on the Commission on Youth. Irene, her husband Peter, and their goldendoodle, Mookie, reside in the Town of Herndon.
