Run for Something mourns with the families affected by the tragedy of Uvalde. This act of senseless violence reminds us once again of the need to transform grief and rage into collective action and change. America’s crisis of gun violence was caused in no small part by the inaction of our elected leaders. New elected leadership is one part of the desperately needed solution.
Run for Something is more committed than ever to supporting progressive and diverse young candidates that believe that everyone has a right to feel safe and to be free from gun violence. Continuing this year’s historic pace, our 57 newest candidates across 23 states are ready to help pass common sense gun reform, gain seats in state and local government, and combat the rot of far-right Republican ideals.
The May 2022 endorsement class is 67% people of color, 44% women and 30% LGBTQIA+. 46% of them are running for state legislature seats, 30% of them are running for municipal office, 19% of them are running for school board, and 5% of them have their eyes set on seats in legal roles like district attorneys and judges.

Arizona House, District 5

Priya is running for State Senate in the new LD18 to make Arizona a leader in renewable energy, restore balance to our water needs through conservation and efficiency, and improve our democracy by making voting easy and accessible to all.
Priya was born and raised in Tucson, and wants all Arizona children to receive the excellent public education she received growing up here. She teaches natural resources law at the University of Arizona and has advocated for an environmental nonprofit organization, and her experience will be an asset to the legislature in addressing climate change and water scarcity. She is a voting rights advocate and has been leading voter protection efforts and engagement on redistricting within the Arizona Democratic Party.
Priya studied engineering at MIT and law and natural resource economics at the U of A, so she knows we need more science-based decision-making in politics. As a mom of two young boys, she wants her children and all children to inherit a sustainable world and sustainable Arizona.

Little Rock voters made history on Dec. 4, 2018 when they elected Frank as the city’s 73rd mayor and first elected Black chief executive. Since his inauguration on January 1, 2019, Frank has worked to unite Little Rock’s diverse neighborhoods through expansion of our economy, creating new opportunities for educational growth for Little Rock’s students, improving the safety of our neighborhoods, increased police accountability, and improving quality of life.

Bulmaro ‘Boomer’ was born and raised in Santa Ana. He is the proud queer son of Oaxaqueño immigrants. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2017, where he majored in Political Science and Public Policy.
After graduating from UC Berkeley, Bulmaro returned to Santa Ana and got involved in local issues around housing, immigration, and police accountability. Now, Bulmaro is running for State Assembly in California’s 68th district to fight for his Orange County community. With a strong track record of advocating for issues and winning against the odds, he will fight for affordable housing, economic justice, criminal justice reform, and equitable coronavirus recovery. He is running a grassroots, corporate-free campaign.

Bryan is the Mayor of the City of Delano and a candidate for California’s State Senate District 16. As the son of immigrants, Bryan’s first-generation experience has served as motivation for his community involvement and advocacy. Bryan recognizes how families and individuals in the Central Valley are often overlooked in Sacramento.
We have big issues but small solutions to our economic problems, poor air quality, water contamination, lack of youth opportunities, low educational attainment rates, lack of affordable housing, poor infrastructure, and public health disparities.
Bryan believes in a healthy and sustainable future for the Central Valley, and he has fought and will continue to fight for progressive policies to ensure the Central Valley is a home our families can thrive in. Robert is a passionate activist and political organizer. Coming from a family of immigrants who fled persecution, Robert has always felt a personal responsibility to fight injustice against anyone. After coming out at 14, Robert took to the streets, organizing for marriage equality and LGBT rights, and against the Bush-era wars. As a student, he worked full-time on the No on Proposition 8 campaign, as well as Pacific Pride Foundation, Santa Barbara’s LGBTQ Center. His professional career also includes working for a U.S. Senator, a Los Angeles City Councilmember, and the LA Jewish Federation.
Along with his husband and their adopted bulldog-mix, Robert lives in West Hollywood, where he previously served on the West Hollywood Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board, and represented West Hollywood on the LA County West Vector Control District Board. Robert currently serves on the city’s Public Safety Commission, where he has been an advocate for reimagining policing and public safety, as well as underrepresented members of the community. Robert is running for West Hollywood City Council in the November 2022 election.

Devin is running for Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder because he believes we must fight for the survival of our democracy. Devin is a social entrepreneur, civic technologist, and serves as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Pinole. Devin is the product of a union worker and small business owner, and understands the value of hard work. As a child, he watched his mother, a social worker, advocate for the needs of vulnerable children, seniors, and families across California. This instilled in him early the values of service and making your voice heard when it comes to doing what’s right.
Devin’s work in democracy reform began at age 16 before he was able to vote. He pursued higher education at UCLA, where he was elected as Student Body President. Devin has spent his professional career advocating for climate justice, democracy reform, tech equity, equitable development, and criminal justice reform. In 2018, he was selected as a Technology & Democracy Fellow by the Harvard University Ash Center for Democracy Governance & Innovation to explore technology’s role in advancing democratic institutions and help Americans — especially young people — build crucial technological skills. In November 2020, he was elected to the Pinole City Council, receiving the highest number of votes in Pinole’s history.
Since being elected, Devin has championed participatory budgeting, strategic planning centered around equitable economic development, and regional climate action. Beyond his public service, Devin leads a team of technologists who work with government agencies and non-governmental organizations to help communities navigate social safety net programs, voting, and COVID-19 vaccination and testing.

A proud resident of Santa Clarita, Andrew has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. For over a decade, he has invested his time and passion into elevating multiple organizations and non-profits while also working hard to ensure that the quality of education for our students excels.
While a student in the William S. Hart Union High School District, Andrew fought to ensure his classmates throughout the district would be able to have a Jr. High School Promotion Ceremony. As he advanced to Canyon High School, his drive for service did not end. He became a part of multiple organizations and groups that improved the quality of students and educational curriculum and, on weekends, dedicated his time to equestrian therapy for youth with disabilities.
Fast forward to today, Andrew has proudly served as an education liaison in the California State Assembly and continues his commitment to the Santa Clarita Valley through his work alongside community leaders, organizations, and nonprofits. Andrew believes that every individual should be given the opportunity to reach their true potential and wants to fight to ensure every person has a seat at the table where decisions are made.
Alameda-Contra Costa Transit Board of Directors, At-Large

Alfred is a planning commissioner, architect, artist, and a regular bus rider running for the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit Board of Directors at-large seat. Alfred is running to support transit workers, improve coordination between AC Transit and other transit agencies, and work with local governments to bring new homes and jobs near bus stops. Alfred will also work on providing safe, accessible streets and sidewalks for people walking to the bus stop, and work on improving the environment with a cleaner, more efficient bus service.

Cassandra is the daughter of Caribbean immigrants whose parents taught her the value of service and modeled the importance of being civically engaged. Born and raised in Lakewood, Cassandra has worked diligently throughout her career to bring needed resources to her community and ensure a brighter future for our youth.
She is a business strategist and social entrepreneur who works to provide marginalized groups the opportunities and access they need to succeed. Through initiatives in education, leadership, and entrepreneurship she co-creates solutions that support underserved communities grow and thrive.
Professionally, she oversees a civic engagement nonprofit and is a co-founder of an education based organization that empowers the next generation of leaders through literacy and leadership programming. Cassandra is also a small business owner of a consulting firm that provides business development services to other small business owners.
Cassandra is running to serve Lakewood as its first city council member to live in East Lakewood. She centers wellness, community and collaboration. As Lakewood’s next city councilwoman she will work to address the needs of the community by investing in infrastructure, expanding access to parks and increasing transparency in local government.
Destiny Briscoe
Pittsburg Unified School Board

Destiny is a wife, a mother, a lawyer, a caretaker to her 53-year-old aunt who has developmental delays, and a champion for education. She is running for Pittsburg School Board. She cares about the educational success of all students.
Before the age of 16-years-old, Destiny lost three of her classmates to gun violence. One of her friends was shot in the head on her way to her eighth-grade dinner dance. Two other classmates were gunned down due to gang violence. Destiny felt that she did not need to aim high for an education because of the violence around her. However, her perspective changed in 12th-grade when two of her high school teachers and family intervened. They gave her hope to believe in herself and a brighter future.
While most high school seniors had four classes, Destiny had seven classes so that she could graduate high school alongside her peers. She graduated high school and was blessed that community college gave her a second chance. While at community college she tutored and mentored students to ensure that they were successful in their educational endeavors. She believes it is imperative to pass down every piece of knowledge to others. Because of her circumstances, she became a lawyer to fight for the voiceless.
Destiny is a leader and a strong advocate for education. She believes that it is important to advocate for our children’s educational enrichment. She is the right person for the Pittsburg School Board.
Berkeley City Council, District 7

Rigel is the current District 7 Berkeley City Councilmember, representing Southside, Telegraph Avenue, and the UC Berkeley campus. When elected at 22 in 2018 by an entirely student-run campaign, Rigel became the youngest city council member in the history of the City of Berkeley. Since then, he has been fighting for progressive values in City Hall, leading our city through the pandemic and ensuring that students and long-time residents alike have a voice at the table.

Mischa is a progressive Democrat running for House District 17 in Colorado Springs. Her core values are servant leadership, compassion, and hard work. Mischa is the daughter of dual Army parents who were stationed and chose to retire in her community when she was six months old. She is a first-generation college graduate who spent her career working towards change, growth and giving back to the community. Her passion for community and her neighbors led her to work in education, mental health, long term Medicaid, and to run small businesses.
She started her journey by way of political action and public service in 2008 for Barack Obama’s campaign, knocking over one thousand doors. That experience showed her the power of representation. The hope she garnered from that race lit a fire and since then, she has spent the past decade working on campaigns and organizing for candidates in Colorado and across the country. She will defend our right to choose, will advocate for healthcare for all, and for equal treatment regardless of our race, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Washington, DC Attorney General

Ryan is running for Attorney General for the District of Columbia in order to create new solutions to cure age-old problems that were exacerbated by the pandemic. We are in times requiring new and bold thought leadership. Ryan knows he has to give back to his hometown in this capacity.
Ryan vows to “rewire the system to empower people” and give “equal access to justice.” Ryan has proposed the following plan to cure issues such as gun violence, housing and education disparities, and environmental concerns:
1) A Taskforce — to revise, repeal, amend, or rewrite the D.C. Code and Municipal Regulations to ensure equity in our systems;
2) Fund an Expungement Clinic — to ensure we reduce recidivism and give residents a real chance at earning a living by having a more fair chance to earn a job;
3) Fund a Will/Trust Clinic — to ensure residents are protecting their assets during their lives to pass down to coming generations, to reduce a cycle of hardship;
4) Expand Public Advocacy — to give access to counsel and the courts to protect our residents and their rights while deterring bad actors from future bad acts.
Washington, DC Council, Ward 3

Phil, a fourth-generation Washingtonian, split his youth between the District of Columbia and Lexington, Kentucky. He graduated from the University of Kentucky and taught Elementary School for seven years in Washington, DC. In 2010 Phil was elected to serve his community in the Palisades as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner.
In 2014, Phil served as Secretary of the 2nd District Citizen Advisory Council, and Executive Board Member of the Palisades Citizens Association. He also was elected to the DC Democratic State Committee and has served the Party for over seven years.
Phil joined the Mayor’s Office in 2016 where served as the Ward 3 Community Outreach and Relations Specialist (MOCRS). In this position, Phil worked on the front lines finding solutions to the issues facing Ward 3, supporting residents, seniors and small businesses. During the pandemic Phil helped to lead the city’s COVID-19 Community Corps on vaccine outreach in underserved communities.
Phil was then elected to lead the Ward 3 Democratic Committee and has served as chair since 2018. In 2021, he was appointed as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of the Clean City where he worked on sustainability, environmental equity and customer debris. He later left his position to run for DC Council.
He lives in the Palisades with his wife, Kathryn.

David’s journey began in Gainesville, Florida. He was born and raised there and went on to be a graduate of Alachua County Public Schools. As a proud Gator, he has worked for small businesses in Gainesville almost his entire working life, and is currently channeling his passion for renewable energy by installing Solar Arrays in the area. Right next to his passion for hard work is a passion for public service.
Since 2017, David has served as a Gainesville City Commissioner and twice been chosen by his peers on the Commission to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. As a Commissioner, he has already worked towards securing housing as a human right, getting Gainesville off of fossil fuels, and addressing the economic, racial, and systemic injustices in Gainesville. As Mayor, Commissioner Arreola will work to finish the job!

Alachua County School Board, District 3

Sarah has lived in Gainesville for more than half her life. She is a former special education teacher and mother of two children with disabilities. When she moved back to Gainesville six years ago, it was with the goal of raising her children surrounded by family and sending them to school in this community.
As a former teacher and mother, Sarah understands the difficulties teachers and parents face. Her daughter has medical disabilities, and she had to pull her children out of the school they loved because Florida’s response to the pandemic made it impossible to send them to school and keep them safe. Sarah knows she is one of thousands of parents in her community who has had similar difficulties.
Sarah is running for school board because she wants to make sure all students get an education that meets their needs by closing the district’s achievement gaps and improving its special education services. She wants to make sure teachers and staff feel supported as the professionals they are, rather than being censored and persecuted.
She wants to make sure all families feel like they are a part of the discussion surrounding big decisions that impact their children. Most importantly, Sarah values and wants to protect public education from attempts to privatize our schools and profit off our children.

Sara is an attorney and a passionate advocate for those she represents. She is a Polk County native. She was raised in Lake Wales, Florida, and attended Polk County Public Schools, where she graduated with high honors from Frostproof Middle/Senior High School and went on to attend Florida State University, where she earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Sociology and Criminology, and Florida A&M University College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor (JD).
Sara returned to Polk County in 2016 and opened her law firm, Sara Jones Law, P.A., where she represents individuals who have been injured in automobile accidents, individuals charged with criminal offenses, and individuals involved in family law disputes. In addition to her work as an attorney, she has been quite active in her community. Sara currently serves on the Board of Directors for the City of Lake Wales Code Enforcement, Victory Ridge Academy, and the Green & Gold Foundation and she serves as the President of the Lincoln Community Development Corporation. Sara also previously served as an Adjunct Professor for Polk State College, an Executive Board Member for the Lake Wales NAACP, and as a member of the Circle of Friends Board of Directors.

Tiffany is deeply committed to improving her community. She is the owner of KBI Staffing Solutions LLC, a solution-driven staffing firm located in the heart of Orlando’s Historic Parramore community. Its mission is to economically empower the community through job opportunities.
Tiffany is a community advocate at heart. She knows how to make calls, gather signatures, knock on doors, and collaborate with the community to get issues resolved. She is also an education advocate and mentors for Seminole High School with the Take Stock in Children Program. She also mentors for the 2022 Orlando Business Journal as a part of Bizwoman Mentoring Monday. She strives to be a role model in her community and wants to positively impact its residents.
A child of immigrant parents, Tiffany is a graduate of the Florida International University and has a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University. In April 2021, she was elected the 25th President of the Orange County, FL branch of the NAACP, the youngest in their history. She is a graduate of Leadership Orlando Class 100 and NAACP 2019 NextGen. In 2021, she was named an Orlando Business Journal 40 under 40 honoree.
As a true public servant, Tiffany serves on both a County and City board, is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, and is a steward at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Eatonville, FL.

Ashley learned her love for her community because she was raised seeing her grandmother, mother, aunts, and uncle always being there to lend a helping hand to others. Ashley realized she had a passion for helping others in high school. It was solidified throughout college and during her national service as an Americorps member with Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta.
Once she returned home to South Florida, Ashley continued to be active in her community as a teacher and eventually became an attorney. Ashley’s experiences as a teacher and now as an attorney fueled her resolve to run against the anti-choice incumbent for State House District 109, who has a demonstrated history of voting against the needs and interests of its constituents. Ashley saw the need for her community to have an advocate to address the lack of affordable housing, lack of access to affordable healthcare, support for public education, and protection of reproductive rights. Hence, she decided to be the advocate.
In 2021, Ashley pivoted from working at a large firm to opening her law firm, Gantt Legacy Law, P.A. She specializes in Criminal Defense, Estate Planning and Probate, and Personal Injury.
Ashley was raised in this community and has been committed to serving for over a decade and will continue to use her voice to speak for those who feel unseen, unheard, and forgotten. Ashley is running against the incumbent for House District 109 in Miami-Dade County.

Sienna is a Florida native and first generation Lebanese-American lawyer in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is running for State Representative for District 87. Growing up in a diverse community helped spark her lifelong commitment to fairness and equality. She has a strong analytical foundation thanks to her pre-medical education, and a strong work ethic thanks to her self-made father.
Sienna is running to represent Palm Beach County in the Florida House of Representatives in order to increase funding for public schools and teachers, repair our State’s crippled unemployment system, protect women’s rights, advocate for affordable housing, expand voting rights, and promote economic development in our communities. Holding those accountable for the system’s failures in order to make sure people in need are able to obtain the benefits to which they are entitled will be among her first actions in the State House.

Joshua earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University, and during an internship for a law firm, was exposed to the world of political service. When his mother was deployed overseas, Josh stepped up and became the legal guardian of his younger sister, an experience that fostered his love for teaching.
After earning a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Josh worked as a mental health therapist providing services to Broward County residents. In 2015, Josh decided to fully embrace his passion for education and became a Government and Economics teacher at Coral Springs High School.
In 2017, Joshua declared his candidacy for the Coral Springs City Commission. During his campaign, he knocked on more than 4,500 doors of city residents and engaged them about the city issues that mattered to them. He ran a campaign that highlighted the multi-cultural diversity of our city and in November of 2018, his efforts proved successful.
Joshua was sworn in as a Coral Springs Commissioner in 2018 and has worked nonstop to improve our parks, support our local businesses, and expand city services. As Commissioner and Vice Mayor, Joshua has led victorious efforts to improve city policing practices, revamp small business partnership programs, create new discrimination protections, and implement new ethics guidelines for elected officials and city employees.
Along his journey serving Coral Springs, Joshua became a loving husband to Cheyenne and proud father of Carter and Caleigh.

Diijon B. DaCosta Sr.
DeKalb County Board of Education

Diijon is a DeKalb County resident who graduated from Redan High School. He obtained his Bachelors from Kennesaw State University (KSU) in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology. He is a founder of DeKalb Kids Project, Inc. (DKP) a nonprofit organization which focuses on emphasizing the importance of academic success and leadership among the youth by incorporating community service, mentorship, and outreach in collaboration with homes, community, and schools. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the DeKalb County Board of Education and previously served as the Southern Regional Director of the National Black Council of School Board Members.
Diijon has devoted his life to his commitment of building a stronger DeKalb and empowering our community for our children to succeed. He believes by the following motto, “The way that you dress, will be the way that you are addressed. Once you change your mind, everything around you will also change.”
Diijon is running for reelection because he believes in the future of the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) and its scholars. As a product of DCSD, educator, and a parent advocate raising his children here, Diijon is a witness to the barriers inhibiting progress. Letty is a pandemic Covid-19 registered nurse, humanitarian, activist, community leader, prochoice feminist and a lifetime trustworthy Democrat who has spent the last decade volunteering, advocating and selflessly given her time to the community and it’s constituents. Sami was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His story is like so many others in America. The son of an immigrant teacher and a lawyer, Sami learned from a young age the value of a good education, workers’ rights, and helping one’s own community.
Sami graduated from George Washington High School, a public school right here in Cedar Rapids, where he pursued his love for swimming and became president of the study body. Inspired into community organizing and public service by President Barack Obama, Sami has been organizing and working to get Democrats elected across Iowa for over a decade.
After high school, Sami attended Georgetown University on a scholarship during which he lived abroad in Argentina and the United Arab Emirates, where he worked for the State Department.
Following graduation he immediately returned to Cedar Rapids to work to rebuild the Democratic Party and elect progressives to office across this state. Most recently, he served on the leadership team for President Joe Biden’s general election campaign here in Iowa.

Lauren is a National Board Certified special education teacher, union member, advocate, community volunteer, and lifelong learner running for Jefferson Parish School Board in Metairie, Louisiana. She is the proud product of a K-12 public education and has taught in public and charter schools in Louisiana for the past 13 years. Lauren believes that the employees, students, families, and community members of the Jefferson Parish School District deserve to have a public school teacher’s voice on the board in real time to highlight the wonderful accomplishments and very real concerns currently happening in public schools, especially in the midst of COVID-19 and Hurricane Ida.
The issues that Lauren is prioritizing on the campaign trail include improving mental health supports for students and educators; protecting democracy through community input; addressing staff shortages; ensuring safe and sustainable school buildings and facilities; and strengthening the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. As a school board member, Lauren commits to making decisions using a whole-child, whole-teacher, and whole-leader approach. Ashley is a mom of a toddler who is a future Baltimore City public school student. She works as a full-time Technology Analyst and a local artist. She is a Violetville resident and an active community member. Ashley is running for the Baltimore City Public Schools Board of Education.
Ashley believes that she brings a different perspective to the current board as an individual with learning disabilities, which include Dyslexia and ADHD. School was always important to her, but she struggled. Due to her efficiency at masking her disabilities, Ashley barely graduated from high school and went undiagnosed until adulthood. When she finally received a diagnosis, she was able to graduate from college with a degree in Software Development & Security.
Ashley wants to be an advocate for the parents, community, and the neurodiverse community. She takes opportunity very seriously and would be honored to have the City of Baltimore choose her as their advocate.

Nichole is a mother of three, an interfaith leader, a non-profit professional, and an active community member who believes in an inclusive and collaborative leadership style. Nichole was raised in a low-income household by a single mother who doubled as a union organizer. She has felt first-hand the difficulties of getting by on a tight budget, of facing a mountain of medical debt, of trying to learn in an underfunded and overcrowded school system, and living through child homelessness. Nichole is running for the Massachusetts House of Representatives for the 35th Middlesex District because we need elected officials who are committed to all our working families, who understand their struggles, and who will serve all as an ally in government. She wants to mediate the housing crisis with rent control, expand healthcare to all, and to properly fund our schools.
Nichole is a believer in rolling up her sleeves to make change happen. She is the founding director of the Islamic Cultural Center of Medford, she formerly co-chaired Our Revolution MA as well as the Malden Disability Commission, and she serves as an advisory board member for CAIR MA. Her experience and strong work ethic prepare her for the challenges of office. She ran in 2020 against a 20-year incumbent during the middle of COVID, when campaigns could not door knock, and still came away with 45% of the vote. Mark is the former legal counsel and budget director for a Massachusetts State Senator. As a renter who has experienced housing instability, a food service worker who has had to scrape together tips to pay rent, and as the child of a formerly incarcerated mother, as well as a father who lost his life to an overdose, Mark has lived the struggles faced by too many people in the district. It is this lived experience that pushed Mark to become the first person in his family to attend college and law school and to work in the state legislature where he worked to pass legislation to prevent evictions, combat the impacts of pollution on communities of color and disrupt the cradle-to-prison pipeline. It is this combination of lived and professional experience that makes Mark the fighter that this district needs to tackle the affordable housing crisis, center environmental justice in our response to climate change and advocate for the investments in our communities that will actually make us safer.
Mark is also actively engaged in the community as a board member for both his local neighborhood coalition and community land trust. He serves on the board of MassEquality, the leading statewide grassroots advocacy organization for issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community and helps run the Boston chapter of the New Leaders Council, which provides training to the next generation of progressive leaders.
If elected, Mark would be the only openly LGBTQ+ person of color, and first nonbinary person elected to the Massachusetts State Legislature.

Kelsey was born and raised in rural northern Michigan. Her mom was a waitress at a local restaurant, and worked long hours to put food on the table. As she grew up, Kelsey went on to benefit from Head Start and a great public education from McBain Rural Agricultural School, and became the first in her family to graduate from college.
In 2017, Kelsey put her organizing skills to use and worked alongside members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community to help pass Jackson’s non-discrimination ordinance. Inspired by the testimony of those speaking in favor of this ordinance and the bravery of those who led the way before her, it was during public comment that Kelsey came out as bisexual. The ordinance passed 5–2, and continues to serve as a reminder that the toughest fights are always the ones worth taking on, and progress can be achieved when we come together and demand it.
When another opportunity to serve her community arose, and a vacancy opened up on her local city council, Kelsey was appointed to represent the people of Ward 5. In her time as a councilor, she fought hard for — and passed — progressive policies that would benefit the least privileged people in her community.
In her free time, Kelsey enjoys reading, cooking, and tackling DIY projects around the 100-year old home she shares with her husband, Conner, and two cats, Bingo and Dan.

Dylan is running because he understands the needs of students and is dedicated to offering bold solutions to improve their educational opportunities. He is working to build a coalition of parents, civic leaders, students, educators, and community members to ensure Flint Community Schools are the BEST choice for ALL scholars. Born and raised in Flint, Dylan grew up on the Southside as the oldest of six children. His mother always emphasized the importance of earning a good education because it was a “Golden Ticket” out of poverty. As a result, Dylan went on to earn a BA in Public Policy from Michigan State University, an MA in Urban Education from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and an MBA from the University of Michigan-Flint.
Dylan began his career as a teacher on the Southside of Chicago. He later taught Spanish to students in Detroit before returning to Flint to teach all subjects as an elementary teacher. Dylan felt it was important to be on the ground in the classroom and in the community before he went on to work in educational policy. In this space, he worked with state legislators and other key stakeholders to advocate for educational equity, fair funding, and common-sense solutions to improve opportunity for students across multiple states, including Michigan. In his current role as a Business Development Manager for the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance, Dylan collaborates with key government, business, and civic partners to advance economic prosperity, investment, and jobs for Flint and Genesee County.

Growing up in West Bloomfield, Noah was steeped in the teachings of his Jewish faith, including the phrase “justice, justice shall you pursue.” Those words were a lifeline for when, at 18 years old, he found himself in a courtroom testifying against the sexual predator who had assaulted him and many others.
Noah continued his pursuit of justice through politics, joining Governor Whitmer’s team to advocate for policies to help Oakland County. After the Pittsburgh synagogue attack, he founded the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus to empower Jewish Michiganders to take on hate, bigotry, and antisemitism. Most recently, he was appointed Director of Communications for the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, spearheading the first-ever Racial Justice Advisory Council and helping establish a partnership to assist in prosecuting hate crimes targeting LGBTQ+ people.
Each of these roles — as well as is experiences with depression and ADHD and his journey to self-acceptance as a gay man — drive his passion for addressing issues like Michigan’s mental health crisis and rising hate crimes.

Ashton is a public policy analyst, a health unit coordinator in behavioral mental health, the child of immigrant parents from Guyana, South America, and the candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 32A. Through his experiences working with government agencies for the Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP) and as a graduate of the local Head Start program, Ashton developed an understanding for how important it is to have voices who will fight for low-income families in the state legislature and how essential community action programs are for helping people lead successful lives.
As a former public policy analyst for the Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP), Ashton studied first-hand the issues that Anoka County faces regarding homelessness, poverty, and low-income child education. Using what he has learned, Ashton intends to fight for meaningful legislation regarding homelessness prevention and improve access to equitable education for all disenfranchised communities. Working as a Health Unit Coordinator in Child/Adolescent Behavioral Mental Health at the University of Minnesota Medical Center has opened his eyes to the depth of the mental health crisis that our community is facing. As an immense advocate for mental health reform, Ashton also intends to help bring together all of our mental health providers to create a more equitable and easily accessible mental health system that will work to ensure every Minnesotan’s well being.

Almost a decade ago, Sheigh worked at a hotel and watched as his co-workers were mistreated, underpaid, and unappreciated by bad management. The only thing that could turn this situation around was to unionize, and that’s what he did. After that, Sheigh became an organizer and his path has been fighting for working people and their families. He led the way helping get the $15 dollar minimum wage passed in Saint Paul and The MSP Airport. For many, this meant a raise that stopped the choice between rent, car payments, and groceries. Seeing thousands of people get a chance at a better future is what Unions and organizing work is about, and we need that kind of change at the Senate.
Sheigh has fought huge companies when they have tried to strong arm workers and won, he has fought alongside communities in the streets for a decade, and pressured lawmakers to do the right thing for working people. Sheigh is running for State Senate in MN SD65 because he knows we share more values than we differ on. We believe in fair pay and the rights of workers. We believe in having a safe affordable home. Danielle is a former public school teacher running to represent District 6 on the Nebraska State Board of Education because she knows strong public education is essential for our individual and collective futures. Danielle spent 8.5 years teaching high school English in rural, urban, and suburban Nebraska. Before she left the classroom to focus more on her kids, Danielle was named the Outstanding Young Educator of the Year by the Nebraska Language Arts Council and the Susan McDaniels Teacher of the Year Award from the Nebraska Writing Project.
While teaching high school students, Danielle also worked to provide teachers across Nebraska with relevant professional development. She served as a co-director for the Nebraska Writing Project and co-facilitated graduate courses for teachers at UNL. She briefly served as an adjunct for UNO in the teacher-education department teaching writing across the content to practicing teachers. Danielle has spent the last seven years tutoring students at local community colleges, working in the nonprofit sector, and volunteering alongside her family.
Danielle is passionate about protecting public education in Nebraska and using it as a vehicle to support ALL students, staff, and communities. She lives in Grand Island with her husband, Nate (a new high school principal); her two 13-year-olds, Jon and Kylynn; and her two rowdy dogs, Bella and Frankie. When Danielle isn’t campaigning, she can be found reading, kickboxing, skateboarding, and checking out local restaurants with her family.

Kali is a fourth-generation Nevadan and a third-generation Clark County School District graduate. She began tutoring children at the age of 15 and went on to supervise a tutoring program while working her way through college.
Today, Kali has been an education advocate for over 20 years. She is the President-Elect of the Nevada PTA, sits on a board of an organization that retrains people for the workforce, and is a Director of Regulatory Compliance for a Financial Tech Company.

Sarah grew up in Brooklyn inheriting a legacy of community stewardship from her late grandfather John B. Elliot, a dogged advocate who serviced community members experiencing HIV/AIDs during the height of the AIDs epidemic in the 1980s. This was a time where simply speaking the words “HIV/AIDS” was deeply controversial. She spent her youth building community gardens and food pantries as a means of increasing food justice with her grandmother Rev. Susie Elliot, when she learned to be unafraid and also fell in love with community stewardship.
Sarah is the only candidate who considers both sides of the Verrazano home. She gave birth to each of her 6 children in Brooklyn. Her first home in Staten Island was a domestic violence shelter. Eventually, her family found permanent housing in NYCHA where she is a proud resident. She’s spent the last 10 years organizing in NYCHA, for affordable housing, found justice and digital equity.
Sarah knows that no one will fight for housing, healthcare, or education harder than she will. Legislation should be crafted by those who have been most divested in and those who are most impacted by the outcomes of that legislation. Legislation will be more than just a piece of paper for her. It will determine if she will have to climb three flights of stairs while existing in the city as a disabled New Yorker. It means that her children will receive care instead of having the police called on them. The newly drawn district embodies her lifelong home and she’s ready to go to work to support District 23.

Patrick is a rising senior at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, running in a special election to represent the Fourth Ward of Ithaca’s Common Council. After being appointed in October 2021, Patrick has worked to unite the student and permanent resident community in Collegetown, successfully passing renter-friendly housing legislation, finding an additional 1.2 million dollars for infrastructure reconstruction, and creating the Collegetown Celebration.
Patrick was proud to vote for Ithaca’s 2030 electrification plan and is now advocating to make Collegetown a more pedestrian-safe area that students, small business owners, and permanent Ithacans can walk, shop, eat, study, and live in. Patrick is focused on what we can do in Collegetown and what we can do now, uplifting the community through genuine grassroots organizing and people dedicated to growing Collegetown.

Ohio House, District 56

Sam is a high school student and a youth activist that is fighting to flip Ohio House, District 56 into one of love, compassion, and unity.
Sam grew up in a family of two immigrant parents. He is a big advocate for finding common ground. He is running because we CAN do better to make this state a better place to live for all people. Since the fifth grade, he has been active in public service, volunteering for campaigns and creating a Guinea Worm PSA that earned high accolades from several African health ministers as well as President Carter.
Sam, 17, is the youngest state legislative candidate in Ohio’s history, and will be the youngest state legislator in US history after November, bringing more representation to current generations and inspiring future ones. With the current incumbent leaving office, Ohio needs a new representative, one who doesn’t have one of the lowest attendance rates in the Columbus statehouse and has said that his vote does NOT matter, like the current officeholder.
Sam is running because legislators in Columbus have not had the people’s best interests at heart. What Sam stands for is preventing a future Lost Generation, grown up in a hate-filled administration. He fights for civil rights, the environment, and for more investment in public education.

Louise is a community non-profit leader and a proud mom of twin boys running to be a State Representative for the eastern part of Delaware County, Ohio. A lifelong Ohioan, Louise is thoroughly dedicated to empowering and uplifting the people of her community, whether that be through committing to a robust public school funding plan, promoting well-paying jobs for Ohio families, or improving upon healthcare accessibility and affordability.
Louise ran in 2018 because she didn’t like the direction Ohio was going in- and she was worried the place that she had chosen to raise her family was becoming even more restrictive. She wants to live in a community where her sons can be who they want to be, and work good-paying jobs that give them all types of opportunities. Four years later, it seems things have only gotten worse, and Louise’s love for her family, her community, and standing up for what she believes in is the reason she’s taking this fight to Delaware County. This time, #TeamValentine is leaving it all out on the field.
OKLAHOMA
Oklahoma Senate, District 48

Rico is a local business owner, community organizer and fourth-generation resident of District 48. With young parents in and out of state prison, Rico was raised primarily by both sets of grandparents. Being exposed first-hand to a deeply flawed justice system, Rico grew up with focus on how law could be used to change people’s lives. This passion for law and justice inspired Rico to go to college — becoming the first male in his family to graduate after attending Oklahoma City Community College and the University of Oklahoma. In 2018, Rico received a Masters degree from the George Washington University’s School of Political Management where he studied under prominent political professionals — both Republicans and Democrats.
Rico is running for the Oklahoma State Senate recognizing the urgency of now. That the devastation of four more years of an unchecked Republican Legislature will last for generations. When elected, Rico will be the youngest Black man elected to the Oklahoma Senate allowing him to bring several new perspectives to the Oklahoma Senate. His background as an organizer will make Rico the most effective State Senator for District 48. He’ll organize, fight, and use every tool at our disposal to force statewide votes on the issues that matter most like economic justice; and modernized schools with support for students, teachers, and administrators. With referendum power, Rico will lead efforts to recall the most repressive bills passed under the Republican supermajority allowing Oklahomans to have a direct say in the policies that affect them. With this power, Oklahoma will be a better, more inclusive state.

Bruce is running for Pennsylvania’s General Assembly to be a legislator who works for solutions to community problems. Alex was born and raised in Woonsocket, RI, to a working-class family of Greek immigrants. He is a proud graduate of Woonsocket High School (2010) and has degrees from Boston University and Brown University. His work as an organizer started in high school, fighting alongside his classmates and teachers against education cuts and an assault on Woonsocket’s public schools.
Over the years, he’s become deeply involved as a climate justice, housing, social justice, and good government activist. As a young organizer and proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, he’s involved with Sunrise Providence, the BLM RI PAC, the RI Queer PAC, and local community and mutual aid organizations, served a term on the Woonsocket City Council, and was one of the core organizers in the 2021 SleepOutRI protest. He also co-founded and serves as the Executive Director of the grassroots organization Rebuild Woonsocket.
The housing crisis, the education crisis, the climate crisis, the crisis of systemic racial justice — these have all hit Alex’s community particularly hard. He has a proven record of fighting to solve these problems and going up against powerful, far-right leadership to do it. He’s running to bring that fight to the General Assembly and adequately represent District 49 for the first time in a long time, by fighting for a Green New Deal, good-paying union jobs, quality affordable housing, Medicare for All and compassionate overdose prevention, a $19/hr minimum wage for all workers, fully-funded public schools, and expansive civil rights and liberties that are under attack.

Jaheem is a young man that does not know everything but is not afraid to learn and ask questions. Jaheem believes it is past time for Marlboro to grow and become a county that represents ALL people.
Serving as Student Body President at Marlboro County High School, he empowered, listened, and motivated people. He believes Marlboro County Council needs someone who represents the future of the county that will engage the younger generation. Marlboro County Council needs effective leadership that can unleash the county’s growth potential while preserving what makes Marlboro such a unique place to live, work, and explore.

She has worked with non-profits, local, state and federal government, universities and private business which has taught her how to communicate across many platforms.
With such diverse experience, Sheryl understands the role that policy can have on outcomes in our communities. She advocates for environmental protection while working together with the community to allow for responsible development and ensure equal access to green spaces and solutions for under-served communities. Heather is a small business owner, is a tech project manager, and is an active part of her community. She was raised by a single mom of five and was the first to graduate from college in her family. Her love of learning brought her to South Carolina where she earned her Master’s from the University of South Carolina with a focus on ethical production.
Heather has served on the Congaree Vista Guild, Harvest Hope Producers, Columbia Design League, Nickelodeon Theatre boards, was Google Women Techmaker lead for her city and has run Google Startup weekends while serving as a mentor at the University of South Carolina’s Start-Up Incubator helping other entrepreneurs see their dreams come to reality. She founded Columbia Women in Tech and other meet-ups pushing for more inclusion within the technology and start-up industries.
Heather is a change maker, believing that if you can get better 1% every day you can achieve anything. She is running to serve with a strong voice of equity, transparency, and collaboration. She will bring that focus and drive to the South Carolina State House.

Katherine is a native Houstonian, double HBCU graduate and social engineer. Katherine currently serves as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County. She is excited to bring perspective and change that Harris County desperately needs.

Titus is a lifelong public servant. Having served as a pastor and a nonprofit founder, he is currently the Chief Operating Officer of an anti-trafficking agency based in Houston. In the face of much division and harmful policy, it is his deep faith in our shared future that prompted him to run for statewide office in Texas. This future, when realized, will be more equitable, inclusive, and just for all people, not just a few.
Titus is passionate about healthcare access, fully funding public education, and providing high quality jobs that pay a livable wage. He lives in Katy, Texas with his wife and two kids.

April is passionate about helping people with their everyday problems and skilled in listening to those who are extremely stressed, angry, or hurt because of their legal issues. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is the Chief Executive of Harris County, which, at five million residents, has a population larger than that of 26 states. Lina oversees a budget of over $4 billion which funds critical government services and infrastructure. She also serves as Harris County’s Director of Emergency Management — and has overseen the response to floods, fires, the winter storm and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shukri is a mother and a community organizer who has worked with the residents of South King County on issues of housing, education, and human services. As a child, she and her family fled civil war in Somalia, and found a home in the Kent public housing system. She’s running to represent the diverse community that welcomed them in District 47.
At the Best Starts for Kids initiative, she has managed programs that directly support families and children, helping them reach adulthood happy, healthy, safe, and thriving. As a leader of the Youth Development Strategy, an organization that supports 32 other youth-serving organizations. Passionately invested in her community, she has served on a number of boards and organizations including Kent Youth and Family Services, Kent Rotary, Kent YMCA, and the Steering Committee for the Kent Education Levy in 2022. Shukri has a B.A. in Public Affairs, a Masters in Public Administration, and a Doctorate in Education from Seattle University. She lives in Kent with her two children.
