You’ve been reading in the news about the incredible wave of first-time candidates running for office — now meet some of the rockstars. Introducing the Run for Something March class of endorsed candidates: 87 amazing millennials and gen-Z’ers who are going to save us all.
These candidates are the present and future leaders of the progressive movement and the Democratic Party. They are all ages 18–40, nearly half identify as women, and nearly half identify as people of color. They come from blue states, red states, and whatever other color you want your states to be. They’re not just talking about what the party should be, or what our government should do — they’ve changed their lives in order to get shit done.
In the March class in particular, we’ve got folks running for state legislatures, city councils, county clerks, school boards, county commissions, and judgeships — and even one person running to be justice of the peace.
There are at least a half-dozen veterans, a few Girl Scout leaders and at least one Eagle Scout, a few engineers, a doctor of computer science, many parents, and a whole bunch of first-generation Americans.
Some of our candidates need barely 1,500 votes to win. Others are trying to get nearly 100,000 voters to the polls. The smallest campaign budget is $500; the biggest is $400,000. They’re all first- or second-time candidates.
Our March class brings our grand total to 309 endorsed candidates since we launched last year— 224 of them in 2018 races — across 41 states.
These candidates are rebuilding our democracy one door-knock and conversation at a time. We’re so hyped to stand with them, help them run great campaigns, and win or lose, keep leading in their communities.

Kyle was born in Attalla, and today, helps solve problems for regular people as an attorney in Gadsden. Everyday, he works to ensure that people accused of crimes get a solid defense, families can navigate life’s difficult moments, and businesses are prepared to succeed. Kyle has learned how to stand up for what’s right and worked hard to get things done. As Representative, Kyle will make sure all of District 28 has a voice.

Andrés Cano, a sixth generation Arizonan, learned about perseverance while being raised by a single mom in public housing.
Andrés, 25, wants to help restore funding to Arizona’s crumbling public education system, enact meaningful criminal justice reform, and eliminate tax loopholes to better fund roads and infrastructure.
A first generation college graduate, Andrés has been at the forefront of policy decisions with Pima County since 2012, when he became the youngest policy advisor in County government.
Andrés is young, gay, Latino, pro-choice, and Catholic. Andrés is running as a proud progressive in an open seat to represent the community that raised him.

Steve Dunwoody is a Veteran, Environmental and Community Advocate, running for the 54th Assembly District in Los Angeles. Prior to this, Steve was California Director of the Vet Voice Foundation, a nonprofit organization under VoteVets.org, directing 60,000 Veterans across the state of California to speak out on public policy and legislation concerning the environment, healthcare, civil and LGBT rights. He was instrumental in protecting the San Gabriel Mountains from oil drillers and also campaigned across California with Senator Bernie Sanders on a ballot measure to lower the cost of prescription drugs. Steve served in the Obama Administration at the White House and U.S. Department of Energy where he helped Veterans find careers in the energy sector. A veteran of the Air National Guard, Steve served in Iraq in 2005 working in financial management. A graduate of Kent State University, Steve is the son of union autoworkers from Detroit.

At 16, she worked in Kenya analyzing household food security and was recognized by the World Food Prize for outstanding contribution to hunger issues. In college, Megan led a non-profit teaching comprehensive health education in socioeconomically-disadvantaged schools. During graduate school, she investigated healthcare discrimination impeding HIV treatment. Megan advocates for patients everyday in her work as a physician.

She is running for the 36th Middlesex State Rep in Massachusetts against a 12 term incumbent who does not share her views or values.
Sabrina envisions a future for Massachusetts where schools are fairly and adequately funded, where our tax dollars are spent on the public good instead of corporate welfare, where LGBTQA+ people are afforded equal rights, where women and families have control over their reproductive health, and where Massachusetts strengthens its strict gun laws.

When she was five years old, Tram and her family fled the hostile communist regime of Vietnam as political refugees and immigrated to the United States, where they settled in the Merrimack Valley. Tram is a proud graduate of Massachusetts’s public schools. Tram has dedicated her career to public service and has been a champion for people who needed one. She has consistently been on the front lines helping victims of domestic abuse, exploited workers, and vulnerable people navigate the legal system as a Staff Attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services. The first in her family to attend a 4-year college, Emily worked for her alma mater, Children’s Hospital Boston, San Francisco AIDS Foundations, and Planned Parenthood.
For over a decade, Emily has dedicated her career to expanding access to healthcare and education for women, kids, and LGBTQ folks. Emily will use her experience to stand up for what is important to us — quality healthcare, ensuring every child has the same educational opportunities, and building an economy that works for everyone.
